Jean Elizabeth Poston Vogelsang, 94, of Hebron, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, in the loving care of St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Beulah Poston; and her devoted husband, Charles J. Vogelsang.
She is survived by her daughter Darla (Ronald) Aitken of Hebron, several cousins, other distant relatives, and her many good friends who were like family to her.
Jean was born on November 6, 1926, in Hebron. As a young girl she was an avid reader which continued throughout her life until her failing eyesight precluded it; yet she was also a “tomboy” and rode bikes all over Hebron with one of her best friends Ruth. After marrying Charles, she loved being a mother, a Girl Scout leader, taking family vacations across the country, square dancing, cooking, and music.
In early years she worked the switchboard at General Electric in Cincinnati and after her husband’s passing worked at Hebron Deposit Bank. Before her death, Jean was the oldest living lifelong member of Hebron Lutheran Church, where she participated for many years in the choirs, Helper’s Circle, Women’s Golf League, Prime Timers, and Quilters. She also enjoyed preparing food for the annual Oyster Supper and funeral meals, where pieces of her homemade pies were highly sought after.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery, Hebron.
Memorial contributions are suggested to: Hebron Lutheran Church, 3140 Limaburg Road, Hebron, KY 41048, or St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 220 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana 47001, or a charity of your choice.
